Care

Ricordea yuma is a Pacific mushroom coral covered in short, bead-like bubbles, often in two or more contrasting colours. Green is the most common colour (LiveAquaria), but orange, blue, purple and multicoloured forms are sold and command high prices. LiveAquaria rates it moderate and less hardy than some other mushrooms. Place it low in the tank with moderate to high light and low flow. It often ships as several mushrooms on one rock. Water: LiveAquaria gives dKH 8–12, pH 8.1–8.4 and 22–26 °C, with iodine and trace elements. Growth is slow to moderate. Sources: LiveAquaria (liveaquaria.com/products/green-ricordea-mushroom-coral). Checked October 2026.

Diet

Photosynthetic. LiveAquaria says it also eats plankton and small invertebrates such as crustaceans; small meaty foods once a week help.

Breeding

LiveAquaria notes that it splits lengthwise on its own. You can also cut a polyp through the mouth with a scalpel and keep the halves in low flow until they reattach.

Compatibility and tank mates

Semi-aggressive (LiveAquaria). Give it space from stony corals; it is easily stung by aggressive LPS.
