Care

Schismatoglottis prietoi is a small aroid from the Philippines that grows in large, dense groups in rivers. It looks rather like a small Anubias, with elliptic leaves about 3–8 cm long. Tropica rates it easy, with low light and low CO2 needs, and says it copes even in very dimly lit tanks. It grows faster than Anubias (medium growth rate) and stays low, reaching about 3–5 cm in the first two months, so it suits the foreground and lower layers of the tank. Water figures are our estimate, not from the sources. Sources: Tropica (tropica.com/en/plants); Wikipedia, List of freshwater aquarium plant species. Checked October 2026.

Breeding

Readily produces runners with new plantlets, which can be separated once they have their own roots.

Compatibility and tank mates

A tough, low plant for most tropical community tanks, shrimp tanks and nano tanks. Like other aroids it is not a favourite food of fish, but heavy plant-eaters may still damage it.
