Care

Sagittaria eatonii is now treated as a synonym of Sagittaria graminea, the grassy arrowhead of eastern North America. We have kept the list name as the page title. The grassy arrowhead is a perennial of marshes and river and lake banks, with narrow, grass-like leaves up to about 20 cm long. Underwater it forms rosettes of strap-shaped leaves and spreads by runners. Use it in the midground of a tank, planted in clumps in a nutrient-rich substrate; out of water it grows up to about 1 m. Water figures are our estimate, not from the sources. Sources: Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagittariagraminea); Wikipedia, List of freshwater aquarium plant species. Checked October 2026.

Breeding

Spreads by runners; separate rooted daughter plants.

Compatibility and tank mates

Tough leaves are usually left alone; digging fish may uproot young plants. Suits tropical and cooler tanks.
