Care

A corallimorph (mushroom coral) with a fleshy disc covered in short bumpy or branched tentacles, sometimes with a contrasting ring around the mouth ("bullseye"). Common in green, blue, orange and red forms. Placement: bottom of the rockwork. Light and flow: low to moderate light and gentle to moderate flow; too much light makes mushrooms shrink. Water: LiveAquaria rates Rhodactis easy and tolerant of less-than-perfect water, though stable water is best. Iodine and trace elements help. Growth: moderate; it multiplies to form a carpet. LiveAquaria gives figures for Rhodactis in general rather than this species. Sources: LiveAquaria (liveaquaria.com/products/green-rhodactis-mushroom-coral). Checked October 2026.

Diet

Photosynthetic. Small foods such as micro-plankton or brine shrimp can be placed on each disc.

Breeding

Easy. It splits lengthwise on its own. To frag, cut a disc into pieces with a scalpel and hold them in a cup of rubble until they attach.

Compatibility and tank mates

Semi-aggressive: it can sting or crowd corals it touches. Keep 10 cm from other corals.
