Care

A small perennial pipewort of tidal mudflats, estuaries and marshes on the Atlantic coast of North America, from Quebec to North Carolina. It grows in fresh or slightly brackish water, in mud, gravel or sand, and is sometimes submerged by the tide. It has grass-like leaves up to about 9 cm long and thin flower stems usually 1–20 cm tall, topped with a small greyish button of flowers. NatureServe rates it as vulnerable, and it has disappeared from New York and Pennsylvania. Our sources say nothing about it in aquariums. As a temperate tidal plant it will not suit warm tropical tanks; it is a curiosity for a cool paludarium. Do not collect it from the wild. Sources: Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eriocaulonparkeri); Wikipedia, List of freshwater aquarium plant species. Checked October 2026.

Breeding

Male and female flowers grow on the same plant and it flowers from July to September; our sources do not describe propagation.

Compatibility and tank mates

Not a community aquarium plant; suited to specialist cool set-ups.
