Care

Oldenlandia salzmannii, also listed as Hedyotis salzmannii, is a small creeping herb of the coffee family from wet places in South America. We could not reach a detailed source page for it, so little is recorded here about its size or behaviour under water. In the hobby it is occasionally grown as a low, creeping foreground plant with small paired leaves, similar in use to other small marsh creepers. Plant small portions in a fine, nutrient-rich substrate, give good light and expect it to spread along the ground and grow upright towards the light if shaded. Water figures are our estimate, not from the sources. Sources: Wikipedia, List of freshwater aquarium plant species. Checked October 2026.

Breeding

Expect it to grow from cuttings of the creeping stems, which root at the nodes.

Compatibility and tank mates

Small and soft; plant-eating fish and digging fish may damage it. Best with small community fish and shrimp in tropical tanks.
