Care

Found on sheltered coral reefs, usually at 5–20 m. Wikipedia now places it in the genus Koumansetta. Give it a reef with rockwork and some open sand. Tank size here is an estimate. The sources give no water figures, so the temperature, pH and salinity shown are general marine aquarium guidance, not species-specific: 24–27 °C, pH 8.1–8.4, specific gravity 1.023–1.026, with stable, well-filtered water. The species is seen in the aquarium trade. The article does not describe its behaviour; in general it is a calm fish that stays close to the rocks. Sources: Wikipedia, List of marine aquarium fish species (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Listofmarineaquariumfishspecies); Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amblygobiushectori). Checked October 2026.

Diet

Not covered in detail by the sources. Offer a mix of small frozen meaty foods and algae-based foods; a mature tank with natural film algae and microfauna helps it stay in condition.

Breeding

No captive breeding details are given in the sources.

Compatibility and tank mates

Reef safe. Peaceful; keep with other calm fish of similar size, one per tank unless a pair.
