Care

Paralemnalia thyrsoides is a soft coral with smooth, finger-like branches that rise from an encrusting base and can form mats. It is usually brown or tan. The trade name is often Paralemnalia or Lemnalia tree coral. LiveAquaria's Paralemnalia tree coral listing (Paralemnalia sp.) is the source for the care below. Placement: middle of the rockwork, in moderate to high light and medium to strong flow, which it needs; in the wild it lives in strong currents. Water: about 22–26 °C, pH 8.1–8.4, dKH 8–12. Add iodine, strontium and trace elements. It is moderately difficult and does best in an established reef. Growth is moderate. Soft corals are not CITES-listed. Maricultured pieces are available. Diet

Photosynthetic, but it benefits from micro-plankton, baby brine shrimp or filter-feeder foods.

Breeding

Cut off a finger with a scalpel and attach it to rubble with a rubber band or mesh until it adheres.

Compatibility and tank mates

Aggressive: it can release toxins that harm neighbouring corals, so give it plenty of space and run activated carbon.
