Care
Echinodorus 'Reni' is a well-known cultivar and one of the smallest red sword plants, growing 15–40 cm tall with a rosette 15–25 cm across. New leaves open reddish-brown to deep beetroot red. Tropica rates it easy, with low CO2 needs and medium growth, and suitable for small tanks. It survives in low light, but needs plenty of light and nutrients for its best colour. Use it as a midground centrepiece. Like other Amazon swords it is a heavy root feeder: plant it in a nutrient-rich substrate and push fertiliser tabs near the roots. Water figures are our estimate, not from the sources. Tropica also sells the Echinodorus cultivars 'Rosé', 'Red Diamond', 'Aquartica', 'Ozelot' and 'Ozelot Green'. Sources: Tropica (tropica.com/en/plants). Checked October 2026.
Breeding
Echinodorus cultivars are propagated from the plantlets that form on flower stems or runners: let them grow roots, then cut them free and plant them. Large rosettes can also be divided at the rhizome. Cultivars must be propagated vegetatively to stay true.
Compatibility and tank mates
Large cichlids, goldfish and other plant-eaters may damage the leaves, and diggers can uproot young plants. Otherwise a good centrepiece for community tanks; snails may nibble soft new leaves.

Business sellers show their address, company details and pet-selling licence to buyers. Seller ratings run from 0 to 100: +1 for each positive feedback, −1 for each negative.
