Care

Cryptocoryne walkeri is a Sri Lankan crypt that grows 12–15 cm tall and about 8 cm across, with stiffer, more upright leaves than most other crypts. C. lutea is treated as a synonym. Plant it in the foreground or midground. Wikipedia rates it medium difficulty and slow-growing, with medium light and nutrient needs, and gives pH 5–7 and 20–28 °C. Like other crypts it is prone to crypt melt after moving. Breeding

Crypts spread by runners from the rhizome, producing daughter plants that can be cut off and replanted once they have a few leaves and roots. Plants grown emersed may flower; the flower is a twisted "water trumpet" (a spathe), and seed is rarely set in cultivation. C. walkeri is one parent of the hybrid C. x willisii.

Compatibility and tank mates

Crypt leaves are fairly tough and are usually left alone by fish, shrimp and snails. Large digging cichlids and goldfish may uproot young plants. Tropical tanks only.
