Care

Condylactis gigantea is a large Caribbean anemone with long, tapering tentacles, often pink- or purple-tipped on a cream, tan or white body. It reaches about 30 cm across. It usually tucks its foot into sand or a rock crevice. Placement: bottom of the tank, where it can attach in a crevice. It moves around until it finds a spot it likes. Light and flow: strong lighting is essential, with moderate flow. Water and supplements: calcium, magnesium, strontium, iodine and trace elements. LiveAquaria gives a minimum tank of 20 US gallons (about 76 litres). LiveAquaria sells it as the Haitian reef anemone ("Condylactis sp."), so its figures are guidance for the genus. Diet

Carnivorous. Feed fish, mussel, shrimp or similar meaty foods.

Breeding

Rarely reproduces in aquariums.

Compatibility and tank mates

Its sting can seriously harm other anemones and corals, so it suits a fish-and-invertebrate tank better than a coral reef. Clownfish rarely host in it. Do not keep it with large hermit crabs such as Dardanus, which eat it. It may wander; cover pump intakes.
