Care

Warning: Aluminium plant is a land (or at most bog) plant, not a true aquatic plant. Kept fully underwater it slowly weakens and dies, often over several months, so it is best grown emersed in a paludarium or with only its roots in water. Pilea cadierei is an evergreen houseplant from southern China and Vietnam, up to about 60 cm tall, with dark green, pointed oval leaves 2.5–6 cm long marked with four raised silvery patches. Its stems are slightly succulent and become woody at the base with age, and it spreads by underground rhizomes. It is sometimes sold in bunches as an aquarium stem plant but will not survive long underwater. Grow it in moist compost, in a paludarium land area or as a houseplant. Breeding

Very easy from stem cuttings, which root in water or moist compost.

Compatibility and tank mates

Do not sell or buy this as a true aquarium plant. It belongs in a paludarium, terrarium or on a windowsill with its roots in water, out of reach of fish.
