Care

Aciotis acuminifolia is a small member of the melastome family (Melastomataceae) from tropical South America. It appears on Wikipedia's list of plants kept in freshwater aquariums, but we could not reach a fuller source for it, so details of its aquarium use are thin. In the hobby it is treated as an amphibious stem plant for the midground. Like most melastomes it is likely to need good light, a nutrient-rich substrate and soft, slightly acidic water, and it is not a plant for a beginner's tank. How well it copes with being fully submerged over the long term is not known from our sources; if growth stalls, it may do better emersed in a paludarium. Water figures are our estimate, not from the sources. Sources: Wikipedia, List of freshwater aquarium plant species. Checked October 2026.

Breeding

Presumably from stem cuttings, as with other stem plants; take the top section and push it into the substrate. Our sources give no details.

Compatibility and tank mates

Soft-leaved; goldfish, large cichlids and plant-eating fish such as silver dollars are likely to eat it. Best in a calm tropical community or shrimp tank.
